Perhaps you were considering a Campbell's Russian Dwarf Hamster or two as a companion pet...
Here are a some things you should
know:
Hammies can be a little cranky if you wake
them up... give them a few minutes to become fully awake before you handle them...
Hamsters store some of their food for a snack later on... Empty the bowl daily
and fill with fresh food in addition to a little fresh fruit or veggie treat. Hamsters teeth grow continuously, an occasional
dog biscuit or hamster-specific chew stick purchased in pet supply stores keep teeth worn down.

A sand bath is an important part of a hamsters grooming routine. The sand absorbs extra oils in the hammies fur leaving him soft and fresh! They love to roll and wrestle in it. A good
quality, low dust Chinchilla sand is best,(we like "Charlie Chinchilla").
A "must have" for all hamsters is a wheel. They run an average
of 8 miles per night! A solid-surface plastic wheel is the safest. Little feet can get caught in other
kinds and injuries can occur. Take the wheel out when cleaning the cage a run under hot water to remove dirt and oils that
accumulate.
A "critter trail" type cage or 10 gallon aquarium with fitted screen is sufficient housing
for 2 dwarf hamsters. Bedding should be Aspen or recycled paper, such as "Carefresh". Never use pine or cedar bedding as these
can cause respiratory ailments in small animals.
